Driven by a passion for the DIY ethics of the punk and hardcore community, Australian based Ninth Life Records emerges with a clear purpose: to establish itself as a bastion for emo, sad punk, and grunge leaning sounds. Artist-run and artist-focused, Ninth Life exists to help lay down solid foundations that support emerging homegrown and international artists to develop dedicated followings in Australia and beyond.

Ninth Life Records was founded to fill a current void in the scene with many Australian bands in the emo space not having representation that caters to their specific sound and needs. Ninth Life is here to help develop pathways to larger stages at home and around the world. At its core, the mission is simple: sad punks helping sad punks.

With deep roots in both the creative and business sides of the scene, co-founders Tayla Ellerby and Joshua Merriel bring years of experience and a shared commitment to giving back to the community they love so much. Tayla, a long time musician with projects including Sleepwell, Cellar Door, and Talk Heavy (Ninth Life’s first signing) and Joshua having over 25 years experience behind the scenes with some of the biggest bands and well respected labels across the alternative music scene, together have the knowledge to help bands reach ever greater heights.
